Hubert Kowalczyk

In the 2025/26 season, Hubert Kowalczyk will make his role debut as Eremit in Der Freischütz at the Hamburg State Opera. He will return as Sarastro in the revival of Die Zauberflöte and collaborate with director Christopher Rüping and conductor Omer Meir Wellber in Die große Stille – a pasticcio featuring music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Hubert Kowalczyk has been a member of the Hamburg State Opera ensemble since 2021, where he has appeared in roles such as Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), Colline (La bohème), Crespel (Les contes d’Hoffmann), Ferrando (Il trovatore), Oroveso (Norma), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), and Zuniga (Carmen).

Guest engagements have taken him to renowned stages across Europe, including the Zurich Opera House (as Nourabad in Les pêcheurs de perles and Truffaldin in Ariadne auf Naxos), the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin (as Zuniga in Carmen), Theater Basel (as Fasolt in Das Rheingold), and the Bregenz Festival (as Haly in L’italiana in Algeri).

He has also appeared as a guest soloist with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra.

Hubert Kowalczyk completed his vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, where he studied with Prof. Martin Bruns and Prof. Dr. Mikhail Lanskoi. In 2019, he joined the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera and was subsequently accepted into the house’s ensemble.
